How to divide the Guanyin lotus

Time for the division of Guanyin Lotus

The Avalokitesvara yin lotus is a plant of the Crassulaceae family and the genus Sedum. It is also called Sedum, Avalokitesvara's seat lotus, and Buddha's seat lotus. Its varieties include Stone Lotus, Red Silk, Beautiful Lotus, and Seed Lotus. The Avalokitesvara yin lotus is often propagated by division, usually in the spring and summer when the temperature is higher.

Method of propagation of Guanyin Lotus by division

Common ways of propagating the Alocasia odora include cuttings and division. Division is often used for propagation. You can cut off the new branches growing in the middle of the leaves and then plant them directly in new soil. It can also be propagated by leaf cuttings.

Steps for dividing the Alocasia odora

Choose the Alocasia odora with more underground tuber tillers, and then divide them along the tuber separation points. Each clump needs to have 2-3 plants with roots. This operation should be done carefully to avoid damaging the roots. Then plant them in pots separately in a shady and humid environment, keep the soil moist, and pay attention to foliar spraying to promote the resumption of growth of the new plants.

You can also dig out the underground tubers before the Alocasia sprouts new buds in spring, then cut them into separate sections, apply wood ash or sulfur powder on the cuts for disinfection and preservation, wrap them with sphagnum moss after they are slightly dry, and plant them in well-drained, loose, fertile, and organic-rich soil to allow them to grow adventitious roots and new buds. The soil should not be too moist to prevent the tubers from rotting.

The Alocasia odora is suitable for planting in loose, fertile soil with good drainage and air permeability. If you prepare it yourself, you can add a little bone meal to humus, river sand or coal slag and mix them. Do not water it too much when you first plant it, keep it semi-dry, which can promote better recovery of the plant.
