How to prune and shape banyan bonsai (these methods and precautions should be mastered)

How to prune and shape a small banyan bonsai

Banyan bonsai can be pruned in summer because of its strong germination ability. There is no problem in pruning it all year round. The main pruning methods are as follows.

Banyan bonsai is loved by many flower lovers because of its beautiful shape and easy maintenance.

In the process of maintaining banyan bonsai, in order to maintain and shape the beautiful shape, it is necessary to prune continuously. In addition to pruning long branches, the following pruning methods are also required, such as pinching, stripping buds, shortening, shortening, thinning branches, and picking leaves .

①Pinching

It means trimming off the tender leaves at the top of the new shoots to encourage the sprouting of new branches and make the crown shape more beautiful. While expanding the crown, it can also inhibit the excessive growth of branches and maintain a beautiful shape.

②Peeling buds

That is, many new buds will grow on the branches, but for the needs of shaping and growth, some tender buds must be pruned off in time. After pruning the tender buds, other buds can get sufficient nutrients and grow better.

③ Short cut

Cut off part of the long branches and cut them into short branches. The length is entirely up to the pruner to decide. They can be cut longer or shorter.

Cut according to the needs of the shape, one-fifth, one-third, or three-fifths are all fine. Keep as much as you need and trim off all the unused parts.

In addition, you can apply a little wood ash or carbendazim to the pruning wounds to disinfect and sterilize and promote wound healing .

④ Thinning branches

It must be done in a timely manner, because the banyan bonsai has strong germination power and grows many new branches .

If the trees are too dense, they need to be thinned out and pruned, cutting off some of the branches to make the shape beautiful and allow for ventilation, which is conducive to the growth of the banyan bonsai.

⑤ Picking leaves

Leaf picking is usually to allow the branches and leaves to grow new leaves and make their colors more beautiful . Before leaf picking, top dressing is needed to promote their growth.

In a place with sufficient sunlight, it promotes photosynthesis, enables its leaves to grow vigorously, accumulates nutrients, and promotes the ability to sprout new buds.
