The best time to take cuttings of Clematis

The best time to take cuttings of Clematis

1. Best time

Clematis can be propagated by cuttings in spring, summer or autumn. As long as the temperature is kept above 20 degrees Celsius, the cuttings can be successfully carried out. However, the best time is in spring, from March to April, which is when the plants just sprout. The growth rate is very fast. As long as the branches are inserted correctly, they will soon take root and sprout. Secondly, in August and September, there is more rainfall and the air is humid, which is conducive to rooting and germination. However, it cannot be done at noon because the intensity of sunlight is too high and will cause the branches to lack water.

2. Cutting method

1. Prepare the substrate: The choice of substrate is an important factor for success. You can use a mixture of peat soil and river sand, which can not only ensure nutrient supplementation, but also allow drainage and ventilation, so that the cuttings will not accumulate water.

2. Cut branches: Cut semi-mature branches from the plant, cut them from the middle part of the upper and lower sections, remove all the leaves at the bottom, and keep the leaves at the top to ensure survival.

3. Carry out cuttings: soak the branches in the rooting agent for a while, and then insert them obliquely into the substrate. The depth should be just enough to make the buds on the nodes just appear. After cuttings, spray water to keep them moist and place them under diffuse light.
