How to save seeds of hyacinth

Hyacinthus flower seeds

Most seeds are saved by dividing the bulbs. After the hyacinth leaves dry up in June each year, the bulbs are dug out, and then the daughter bulbs and mother bulbs are separated. They are then planted in the soil in autumn. This way the survival rate is extremely high, but it will take three years for them to bloom.

Hyacinthus keeps its own seeds

Hyacinth flowers can keep their own seeds. Generally, hyacinths are sown in autumn every year. They will bloom after 4-5 years of care. After they finish blooming, they will grow seeds. At this time, they can be collected and wait for sowing in the autumn of the following year. It is rare for hyacinths to leave seeds by sowing, and sometimes you may not see any for several years.

Collecting hyacinth seeds

After the hyacinth flowering period, the environment needs to be kept ventilated. Seeds will be produced on the withered plants. When the seeds are mature, they can be harvested in time for sowing and propagation. After 5-7 years of maintenance, they can grow into flowering bulbs.

Hyacinth Seed Saving

After hyacinth blooms, the seeds can be harvested in time, placed in a well-ventilated place to dry, and then stored in a dry and ventilated place. If the bulbs are dug out, they need to be refrigerated in the refrigerator for about a month to promote successful flowering later.

Hyacinth seed planting

Hyacinths are generally planted in autumn, from September to November, and will bloom in April of the following year.

After the stems and leaves of hyacinth on the ground have completely withered, dig out the bulbs, cut off the dry stems and leaves and roots, place the bulbs in a ventilated place to dry, then wrap the bulbs with newspapers and store them in a cool and ventilated place. Wait until the autumn and winter when the roots of the hyacinth bulbs show signs of germination, then plant the bulbs in the soil and carry out deep planting.
