Kalanchoe1. Re-cutting of branches1. Re-cuttingKalanchoe plants that are one to one year old bloom the most, while plants that are more than two years old are severely lignified and bloom less! Therefore, flower lovers who often grow Kalanchoe usually cut off the branches of Kalanchoe and re-graft them every year. 2. Processing branchesThe branches of Kalanchoe are easy to grow by transplanting. Cut the young, non-lignified branches of the current year and place them in a well-lit and ventilated place to dry for 20-30 minutes. If you have rooting powder at home, you can dip the bottom of the branches in some rooting water. 3. Prepare the SoilPrepare loose and breathable soil and put it into the flowerpot. The soil can be prepared according to the ratio of peat soil: perlite = 3:1. If you don’t have peat soil and perlite at home, you can also use garden soil: sand = 3:1. However, the soil must be disinfected or exposed to the sun in advance. 4. Insert the seeds into the soilPoke a few holes in the soil, insert the Kalanchoe branches into the holes, then compact it slightly, water it thoroughly, and place it in a well-lit and ventilated place. It will take 1-2 weeks for roots to grow. 2. Pruning and topping1. ToppingDuring the growing period of Kalanchoe, it is necessary to pinch and top it in time to prevent it from growing too tall or too long, and to have more side branches. The operation is very simple. When the Kalanchoe grows 5 pairs of leaves, just pick off the 3 pairs of leaves in the middle. Then, perform the same operation every time the side buds grow 5 pairs of leaves. Repeat it about 2-3 times. 2. ToppingIf the Kalanchoe grows too tall or has few side branches, it will also bloom very few flowers. At this time, we can top it, leaving two pairs of leaves at the bottom of the branches that are too long or have too few side buds, and completely cutting off the upper part. 3. Cut off the remaining flowersAfter the Kalanchoe has finished blooming, be sure to cut off the remaining flowers in time, otherwise the remaining flowers will consume a lot of nutrients and cause the next batch of flowers to not bloom well. The cutting positions are shown in the picture below! BougainvilleaPinching1. ToppingIf you want the bougainvillea to bloom more and more frequently, you must constantly pinch the branches. That is, when the new branches grow 6 leaves, pinch off the 2 middle leaves, leaving only the 4 leaves at the bottom. In this way, the branches will sprout more side buds. When the side buds grow to 6 leaves, pinch off 2 and leave 4, until the bougainvillea has a fuller plant shape. 2. Prune dead branchesIf bougainvillea is not pruned, it will have few flowers or no flowers, so in June, July and August, bougainvillea needs to be properly pruned. Of course, it should not be pruned heavily, and only the overgrown branches, weak branches, parallel branches, crossed branches, etc. need to be pruned to make the plant shape fuller. Water Control1. Water control timeIf you want Bougainvillea to bloom frequently, you must control its water. Water control means watering the flowers less or even not at all. The water of Bougainvillea can be controlled in late August or early September, so that it will be in full bloom on National Day on October 1st! 2. How to control waterFrom August 25th to around September 5th, start controlling the watering of the bougainvillea. Do not water it heavily or thoroughly. Just spray water on the surface of the soil. Let the bougainvillea wilt for half a day and remain unwilted for half a day every day. It will no longer sprout or grow new leaves. In summer, you can sprinkle more water around. During the water control period, do not apply fertilizer. 3. Resume wateringAfter controlling water for about 20 days, you can start normal water and fertilizer management. Do not water unless the soil is dry, and water thoroughly when you do. You can apply organic alum fertilizer that you ferment yourself, or you can apply compound fertilizer rich in phosphorus and potassium once a week. 4. Spray paclobutrazolWhen the bougainvillea buds or blooms, you can spray it with paclobutrazol solution once. The ratio is: paclobutrazol: water = 2:10000. Paclobutrazol will make the flower buds of bougainvillea more numerous and denser. JasmineMost people grow jasmine, but they only make it bloom 1-2 times. In fact, jasmine has four flowering periods a year, from June to October. The first batch of flowers is in June; the second and third batches are in July and August; and the fourth batch is in September and October. So how can jasmine bloom four times? 1. The first flowering period (June)In June, jasmine blooms its first batch of flowers. At this time, the flowers will not be too big. After the flowers bloom, quickly cut off the remaining flowers. The method is to cut off the remaining flowers together with 2-3 pairs of leaves under the flowers. On the one hand, it reduces nutrient consumption, and on the other hand, it promotes the germination of jasmine's side buds. In addition, apply compound fertilizer liquid fertilizer once a week after flowering. The method is to put 2-3 grains of compound fertilizer into a spray bottle, shake the spray bottle vigorously to dissolve the compound fertilizer particles inside, and then water the jasmine roots. 2. Second flowering period (June-July)Late June to early July is the first peak flowering period of jasmine. During this period, fertilizer needs to be applied every two days. You can use fully decomposed organic fertilizer mixed with water to water jasmine, such as alum fertilizer water, fish water, etc. The ratio of fertilizer water to clean water is 1:4. It is best to apply fertilizer at night. In addition, the weather is hot at this time, so it is generally necessary to water the plants once every 2-3 days, and once a day outdoors, and watering should be done in the morning. 3. The third flowering period (August)Around early August, jasmine begins to bloom for the third time. At this time, fertilizer should be applied once every three days or so. The fertilizer should be more concentrated than before, and the ratio of fertilizer water to clean water should be increased to 1:1. If you want the jasmine to bloom large and fragrant, you can also spray superphosphate solution on the leaves 1-2 times a week. By late August, gradually reduce the frequency of fertilizing to about once every 6-7 days, and watering to about once every 2 days. 4. The fourth flowering period (September-October)Around early September to early October, the third batch of jasmine flowers will form. At this time, the weather is gradually getting cooler, so stop fertilizing and reduce the frequency of watering to keep the soil in the pot slightly moist. After flowering, trim the branches behind the flowers, overgrown branches, crossed branches, dead branches, diseased branches, etc. |
