When to plant Xiangling walnuts

Xiangling walnut can be planted in spring and autumn, after the soil thaws and before the seedlings sprout in spring, or after the plants shed their leaves and before the soil freezes.

The Xiangling walnut variety is very drought-resistant and has a strong resistance to black spot disease. It is suitable for cultivating Xiangling walnut seedlings in Qingshi mountain areas with good soil, fertilizer and water conditions and sufficient light. It germinates in late March and the nuts mature in late August.

1. Dig holes at fixed points: Before planting Xiangling walnuts, the land needs to be prepared. Generally, holes are dug with a plant spacing of 3 meters and a row spacing of 4 meters. Then dig holes with a depth and width of 60cm×60cm, put sufficient base fertilizer, and mix the farmyard manure with the soil before planting trees.

2. Treatment of seedlings: It is necessary to cut off the excessively long, injured and rotten roots of the seedlings, and then immerse the base in clean water for 6-8 hours. After taking it out, immerse it in 300 times lime sulfur mixture for 1 minute for disinfection and sterilization. Soak the roots of the seedlings in rooting powder for 40-60 minutes to improve the survival rate.

3. Planting: Plant the prepared seedlings in the soil. When the root neck is buried, compact it lightly, sprinkle a thin layer of soil, and water it in time. This will allow the roots to be in close contact with the soil, which can increase the survival rate in a moist environment.

Xiangling walnut management precautions

Xiangling walnut is a sun-loving plant and needs sufficient light during its growth period, but it cannot tolerate strong light, so shading measures are needed in summer. During the vigorous growth period, a thin liquid fertilizer can be applied once a month. In addition, the plant is prone to diseases and pests, so it needs to be sprayed with pesticides as soon as possible for prevention and control.
