Peony planting methods and precautions

When to plant peonies

When planting peonies, people usually choose autumn every year because the climate at that time is most suitable for growth, allowing it to grow better. When growing, there must be a good ventilation environment and sufficient sunlight.

How to grow peony

1. Clean the roots of peony

Before planting peonies, the roots need to be carefully rinsed under the tap to remove mildew spots on the roots that have formed during transportation and to avoid the occurrence of diseases and insect pests.

2. Soak the roots of peony

It is necessary to use carbendazim and rooting powder to soak the peony roots for 20-30 minutes. During the soaking process, all the roots should be soaked in it. It is recommended to use a bucket of water to soak them.

3. Proper root pruning

Different peony varieties have slightly different root systems, so root pruning needs to be done according to the specific situation. Generally, some old and thick roots need to be cut off, and some new and thin roots need to be retained.

4. Mixed base fertilizer

Peonies like fertilizer. When planting, you can mix some well-rotted farmyard manure or cake fertilizer into the soil. Dry sheep manure, sesame oil residue, bean cake, etc. will all be fine. Mix the base fertilizer and soil evenly and set aside.

Matters Needing Attention in Peony Care and Management

When caring for peonies, you need to pay attention to the following: it must have sufficient sunlight at normal times, appropriate shade in summer, and loose, breathable soil for planting. When watering, it needs to be done in moderation to avoid water accumulation, otherwise it will affect the growth of the root system.
