How to prune bamboo begonia

How to prune bamboo begonia

1. It is more suitable to cut in spring or autumn

When pruning bamboo begonias, you must choose a more appropriate season. Because it grows faster in the summer, it needs a lot of nutrients, and it will also reduce the number of branches and leaves, leading to nutritional deficiencies, which will cause the flowers to wither or fall off. If you prune it in winter, it will make growth difficult. Therefore, it is best to prune it in spring or autumn. First, it will not cause a lack of nutrients and thus cause growth difficulties. Second, when the branches and leaves are just growing out or falling, they require less nutrients, so pruning at this time will not affect the bamboo begonia.

2. Use special scissors to cut

When pruning bamboo begonias, it is best to use tree shears instead of just using a pair of scissors. If the scissors are not sharp, when pruning the crabapple, you may not be able to cut off its bark, or its branches may be deformed, affecting its growth. Of course, rusty or oily scissors are not good either, as they will contaminate the branches and affect their growth. So be sure to use special scissors to cut.

3. Remove the bad ones and keep the good ones

When pruning, we should keep the good branches and remove the bad ones. When pruning, it is generally enough to leave 4 plants. If there are too many, they will not grow well and will be too dense. Because the main branches will also branch out into many small branches. If the trees are too dense, the leaves inside will rot and the color of the branches will change.

4. Try to trim the outer branches at the bottom and leave the inner branches.

When pruning, don't trim too much inside. Generally, just trim the outside, and then cut off some of the scattered and extra branches. This will allow better ventilation and prevent it from rotting. It also ensures there is plenty of room for growth. In the end, it will make it look better and it will look nice when placed at home.

5. Branches that must be cut off

When the bamboo crabapple grows, its branches grow rather randomly. This will not look good. So cut it off. Also, those branches that cannot grow, those that are smaller, those that are sick or have insects, and those that are bent and not neatly should all be cut off.
