Mung bean growing environment and conditions

Mung beans are widely cultivated in tropical and subtropical regions and are distributed in both the north and south of China. The seeds are edible, starch can be extracted, and they can also be used as medicine. They have the effects of cooling and detoxifying, diuretic and improving eyesight. The whole plant is a good summer green manure.

Mung Bean Growing Conditions

Mung beans prefer a warm environment. The suitable growth temperature is between 15-18 degrees. The suitable temperature for germination is between 8 and 12 degrees. The temperature during flowering and podding is best between 18 and 20 degrees. If the temperature is too high, the stems and leaves will grow too vigorously, which will affect flowering and podding. Mung beans are not cold-resistant. When the temperature drops below 0℃, the plants are susceptible to frost damage and the seed germination rate is also low.

The growth process of mung beans

The growth process of mung beans is very simple. Soon after sowing, leaves will grow. After three leaves grow, flower buds will sprout and they will soon bloom and bear fruit. If you want to plant mung beans, you need to choose plump, healthy and disease-free seeds, soak them in advance for one day, then sow them in the soil, keep the soil moist, and they will germinate in 3 to 5 days.

Mung bean planting time and method

Mung beans prefer a high temperature and high humidity environment and grow vigorously in summer. They are suitable for planting in April-July each year. Mix the seeds with resistance agents, dig a small hole every 40 cm, sprinkle 3 to 4 seeds in each hole, apply some compound fertilizer, and cover with a thin layer of soil. When the seeds germinate and grow 4 to 5 leaves, they can be transplanted.
