Garlic's growing environment and growing conditions

Garlic Growth Environment and Conditions

Garlic prefers a cool environment, likes moisture and is afraid of drought. It has a wide adaptability to soil, but fertile loam rich in organic matter, loose and breathable, and has strong drainage is more suitable. The cultivated area of garlic in my country is relatively wide, mainly distributed in Hebei, Jiangsu, Henan, Shandong, Shanghai, Sichuan and other regions of my country.

Garlic Growing Conditions

Garlic is a long-day plant that needs more than 12 hours of sunlight a day and a temperature of 15-20℃. The terminal buds on the stem disk will soon sprout. It has a certain degree of drought resistance, but in the early stage of vegetative growth, the soil should be kept moist to prevent the soil from being too dry. It is suitable for planting in humus-rich and fertile loam.

Garlic Growth Temperature

Garlic prefers cool environmental conditions. The suitable growth temperature is between 12-25 degrees. It is not resistant to high temperatures. If the temperature is too high, it will enter a dormant state. It has a certain degree of cold resistance and can withstand temperatures as low as minus 5 degrees.

Garlic Growth Process

After garlic is sown and germinated, flower buds will differentiate and then the tubers will swell up. If it is maintained in a dark environment, it will gradually grow into garlic sprouts. If it is maintained in a sunny place, it will grow into garlic seedlings. Generally, these growth processes can be completed in one month in spring.

Garlic planting time and method

1. Planting time

Because of the different planting locations, the planting time of garlic varies greatly. For example, in the south where the temperature is higher, it can be sown in autumn and harvested in early summer of the following year. If the winter in the north is very cold, it is best to sow in spring and plant when the temperature is 5-degrees.

2. Planting method

Plant the garlic cloves into the soil with the garlic heads facing downwards, 3-5 centimeters deep, then cover with a layer of soil. Apply enough base fertilizer to the soil, 500 kg of decomposed livestock manure fertilizer per mu of land. When planting, the plant spacing should be controlled at 5 centimeters, and water thoroughly once. This way, the garlic seedlings can grow faster.
