How to care for hyacinth after it blooms

How to care for hyacinth after it blooms

1. Continue maintenance

Hyacinths usually start to bloom in mid-March and usually wilt in April. At this time, the bulbs are in the growth period, and the flower stems need to be cut off first to avoid nutrient waste. In addition, water and fertilizer should be added in time to prevent the bulbs from falling into dormancy before they take shape.

2. Cut leaves and remove roots

In late May, the leaves of hyacinth are basically withered. At this time, all the leaves and roots should be cut off, leaving only the bulb part. Because the bulbs retain some nutrients, they can continue to bloom next year.

3. Refrigeration of bulbs

First wash the hyacinth bulbs, and then place them in a cool and dry place. You can also wrap them in paper plastic bags and put them in the refrigerator. Low temperature will promote their growth to a certain extent.

4. Replanting

The planting time is mostly from October to November. Because hyacinths mostly grow in winter, it is more conducive to rooting and sprouting if planted at this time, and they will bloom again in the spring of the following year.

5. Notes

1. Due to climate differences, hyacinths will only bloom for a maximum of two years in China, and the number of flowers in the second year will be about half that of the first year.

2. Hyacinths grown in water consume a huge amount of nutrients, so they are generally grown in soil in the second year. At the same time, the inflorescences are cut off to continue providing nutrition, and they will bloom again in the third year.

3. Cold treatment of hyacinth is very necessary, otherwise it will cause the top to bloom first, and the inflorescence will be short and strong.
