Apple tree growth environment and growing conditions

Apple Tree Growth Environment and Conditions

Apple trees are suitable for growing in places with relatively warm climate, relatively fertile soil, relatively sufficient light and moderate precipitation. When cultivating, they can be planted in places with loose and thick soil and relatively good lighting conditions. This will be of great benefit to its growth and fruiting.

Apple trees are widely planted in China. The cool highlands of the southwest, the Loess Plateau, the old course of the Yellow River, and the Bohai Bay are the areas in China where apples grow the most. The Bohai Bay production area and the Northwest Loess Plateau production area are the most suitable places for apple production, followed by the old course of the Yellow River production area.

Apple Tree Growing Conditions

Apple trees are suitable for growing in a low temperature and dry environment. They are suitable for planting in fertile, loose, well-drained, organic-rich soil. If apples are planted in areas with insufficient or uneven rainfall, drainage and irrigation measures need to be taken to provide a temperature of 12℃-25℃. The temperature in winter needs to be below 8℃.

Apple tree growing temperature

Apples prefer a low temperature environment. It is generally believed that the minimum temperature for apples is about 5 degrees, the optimum temperature is 13 to 25 degrees, and the maximum temperature is about 40 degrees. The optimum average temperature for different varieties during the growth period is different due to variety, organ, age, growth period, physiological process and temperature changes.

Apple tree growth process

The growth of apple trees needs to go through the sapling stage, initial fruiting stage, peak fruiting stage and aging stage. The phenological period of apples mainly includes the root activity period, budding and flowering period, new shoot growth period, fruit enlargement period, flower bud differentiation period, fruit ripening period, leaf fall period, dormancy period, etc.

Apple tree planting time and method

Apple trees are suitable for planting in late winter and early spring. Generally speaking, it should be completed before the end of March. They can also be planted in autumn from September to December. The best time is the first half of November.

1. Selection of seedlings: Apple trees have a strong ability to adapt to the environment and are distributed in a very wide area. It is necessary to choose suitable varieties based on the climatic conditions of planting, and decide whether to plant early-maturing varieties, medium-maturing varieties, or late-maturing varieties.

2. Seedling breeding: Apple trees are often propagated asexually, and the most commonly used method is grafting. Select excellent rootstocks, and then go through several processes such as stratification, sowing management, grafting and rootstock seedling breeding. The specific breeding time during the breeding process is generally carried out in winter.
