When and how to plant Brussels sprouts

Brussels sprouts planting time

When planting soup vegetables, they have requirements for the surrounding temperature and are suitable for growing in an environment of 20-30 degrees, so they can be sown around April in spring. In addition to sowing in spring, they can also be sown in August-September in autumn. The temperature at that time is also very suitable for seed germination and growth. The temperature in different regions is different, and the appropriate sowing time can be selected according to the local climate.

How to grow soup vegetables

1. Seed treatment

Collect the mature soup vegetable seeds. Its seed coat is relatively hard, and it is difficult to germinate by simply sowing. It needs to be soaked in advance for germination. Prepare 50℃ warm water, soak the seeds for half an hour, and then soak them for another 5-6 hours when the water temperature drops to 30℃. After the seeds are soaked in water, take out the seeds and place them in a place with higher temperature for germination.

2. Fertilization and land preparation

Before planting soup vegetables, you need to choose suitable soil. It is suitable for planting in loose sandy soil. It needs to have good drainage, prepare the soil, apply fully decomposed organic fertilizer as base fertilizer, and deep plowing to make ridges.

3. Sowing

Soup vegetables can be sown directly or transplanted after raising seedlings. Generally, when planting at home, direct sowing is more common. Prepare the soil, evenly sow the seeds in the soil, cover the surface of the seeds with about 2 cm of fine soil, water the soil to soak it, and wait for the seeds to germinate.

Things to note when growing soup vegetables

After the soup vegetable sprouts, water it regularly to keep the soil slightly moist, but do not allow water to accumulate, otherwise the roots will rot and affect its later growth. Wait until it grows new roots before applying the first fertilizer.
