Purple peony's growing environment and local conditions

Purple Peony Growth Environment and Conditions

Purple peony is mainly distributed in northwestern Yunnan, southwestern Sichuan and southeastern Tibet in China. It often grows in mountains and grass at an altitude of 2300-3700 meters. It likes a cool and dry environment and is afraid of strong winds and scorching sun. When planting, you need to choose a good planting site according to its growth habits, facing the sun, sheltered from the wind, and in a semi-shaded environment.

Purple Peony Growing Conditions

Purple peony likes a cool environment, is not resistant to high temperatures, prefers dryness and fears moisture. It has a certain degree of cold resistance and can withstand temperatures as low as minus 30 degrees Celsius. It grows normally in areas with an annual average relative humidity of about 45 percent. It likes shade and only requires bright diffuse light for maintenance. It is suitable for planting in well-drained, loose, fertile neutral soil or sandy soil.

Purple peony growth temperature

The suitable growth temperature for purple peony is between 17-20 degrees. If the temperature exceeds 35 degrees, the plant will be dormant. It can withstand the lowest temperature of minus 30 degrees.

The growth process of purple peony

1. When the temperature exceeds three degrees in spring, the purple peony begins to sprout new buds, and the top gradually cracks, revealing the tips of the buds and leaves. When the temperature is above sixty degrees Celsius, the leaf buds will grow into leaves and stems.

2. The flower buds of purple peony begin to differentiate in late April to early May, and will be formed between September and November. After flowering, the flower buds continue to differentiate in the leaf axils, and then the pistils petalize, forming colorful flowers.

Purple peony planting time and method

After the purple peony fruits are harvested, they can be sown as soon as they are harvested, no later than September of the same year. Before sowing, apply enough base fertilizer, deep plow and level the soil, and disinfect it. It is best to use transparent planting containers so that the rooting situation can be observed.

When the roots of the purple peony grow to about 5 cm, they can be placed in the refrigerator and kept at around 1 to 7 degrees for about 15-20 days. Then take them out and continue to place them in a warm place and they will sprout.
