Cypress's growth environment and local conditions

Cypress Growth Environment and Conditions

Cypress is widely distributed in China, especially in northern Sichuan along the Jialing River basin, Qujiang River basin and both sides of its tributaries, where there are thriving cypress forests. It is widely planted in the Yangtze River basin and areas to its south.

Cypress Growing Conditions

Cypress prefers a warm and humid environment, and grows well in places with an average annual temperature of 13 to 19 degrees, an annual rainfall of more than 1,000 mm, and a relatively even distribution without obvious drought. It has a wide adaptability to soil, is resistant to drought and barrenness, and is slightly resistant to waterlogging. It can grow in loose, fertile neutral, slightly acidic and calcareous soil. It has strong cold resistance and rarely suffers from frost damage.

Cypress growth temperature

The suitable temperature for cypress growth in spring and summer is 20 to 24 degrees during the day and 16 to 18 degrees at night. Although it has a certain degree of cold resistance, it needs to be placed in a greenhouse in winter and placed in a sunny place with sufficient sunlight. The overwintering temperature should be maintained at 10-13℃.

Cypress tree growth process

Cypress trees grow in clumps. To ensure a stable root system, they are planted close together one by one so that they can withstand wind and not break. The branches and leaves of cypress trees grow upward and all the nutrients they need are absorbed from the root system. The flowering and fruiting of cypress trees are the same as other plants, and the fruit can be used as seeds.

Cypress planting time and method

Cypress can be sown in spring. The seeds should be soaked in warm water at 50-55 degrees for about 1 hour in advance, and then they can be sown or broadcast. The soil needs to be leveled in advance and watered thoroughly. When the topsoil is slightly dry, sow the seeds and cover them with a layer of soil. They will germinate after 2 weeks.
