What are the cultivation methods and precautions of gerbera

Gerbera cultivation method

Gerbera belongs to the Asteraceae family. Methods of reproduction include division, cuttings, and sowing. Common cultivated varieties include single-petal, semi-double-petal, and double-petal.

Gerbera prefers a warm, well-lit and ventilated environment. The suitable growth temperature is between 20-25 degrees, and it should not be lower than 10 degrees in winter. It is suitable for planting in well-drained, loose, fertile, humus-rich slightly acidic sandy loam.

illumination

Gerbera is a light-loving plant and is suitable for growing in an environment with sufficient light, so that the plant can grow strong and have bright flowers. It needs to be exposed to light for more than 12 hours a day, but if the light is very strong in summer, it needs to be shaded.

temperature

Gerbera likes a warm environment. The most suitable growth temperature is 20-25℃, which should not be lower than 5℃ or higher than 30℃. It is very sensitive to temperature difference. The temperature difference between day and night is preferably 2-3℃. If the temperature difference is too large, it will be unfavorable for flowering.

soil

Gerbera has strict requirements on soil and is best planted in loose, breathable and well-drained soil. Peat and perlite can be mixed to prepare a pH value of 5.5 to 6.0 and an EC value of 0.7 to 1.0, so that it can absorb more trace elements.

Watering

Gerbera likes a humid environment and should be watered frequently during its growth period, preferably in the morning or evening. After the plant has taken root, water it from the bottom. During high temperatures, water it from the top, but do not leave too much water in the center, otherwise fungus and mildew will occur.

Fertilization

Gerbera is a fertilizer-loving plant. During its growth period, it needs to be fertilized with nitrogen and phosphorus fertilizers. Special attention should be paid to supplementing potassium fertilizer once every 10 days. When the temperature is high or low, the plant will enter a semi-dormant state and fertilization can be stopped.

prune

The leaves at the bottom of gerbera tend to turn yellow and age easily, so they need to be pruned as soon as possible. This is beneficial to the growth of new leaves and flower buds, and can also increase ventilation. In addition, if too many leaves grow densely together, some of them can be removed appropriately.

Precautions for growing gerbera

During the growth of gerbera, it is necessary to trim yellow leaves and dense branches and leaves in time to increase ventilation, which can reduce the occurrence of diseases and pests. In addition, it often has diseases such as powdery mildew, leaf spot, viral disease, as well as pests such as whiteflies, cabbage loopers and thrips, which need to be prevented as early as possible.
