What are the cultivation methods and precautions for Epiphyllum?

How to grow Epiphyllum

Epiphyllum likes a warm, humid and sunny environment. It has poor cold resistance and is slightly shade-tolerant. The suitable growth temperature is between 20℃-25℃, and the winter temperature should not be lower than 10℃. Moreover, the soil for growing Epiphyllum should be loose, fertile and slightly acidic.

Watering method

Epiphyllum likes a humid environment. The soil must be kept moist during the growth period. Do not water it excessively, as excessive watering can easily lead to root rot. Watering must be controlled during the flowering period, otherwise the number of flowers will decrease. When the temperature is high in summer, you can water it every day and sprinkle water on the ground frequently to increase the air humidity.

Fertilization method

When planting Epiphyllum, you can apply base fertilizer. During the growth period, be sure to apply thin fertilizer frequently. Do not use raw fertilizer or concentrated fertilizer. Generally, it is sufficient to apply fertilizer once every half a month. Be sure to apply more liquid fertilizer containing more phosphorus.

Pruning methods

During the growth period of Epiphyllum, you can pinch the top in time to control the height of the plant. You should also use the bud induction method to pierce the growth point in the appropriate place, thin out the dense branches and leaves, and reduce the loss of nutrients. It should be noted that Epiphyllum itself is not suitable for heavy pruning. Excessive pruning will lead to poor flowering.

Precautions for growing Epiphyllum

1. Epiphyllum is suitable for planting in soil with good drainage, rich in humus, loose and fertile. It can be made by mixing leaf mold with a small amount of fine sand.

2. Water frequently in summer, ensure good drainage in the rainy season, and keep the soil slightly moist in spring and autumn. It likes a semi-shady environment, needs shade in summer, and moved indoors to a sunny place in winter for maintenance, with the temperature between 10-12 degrees.
