How to water Kalanchoe

How to water Kalanchoe

Don’t water unless it’s dry, and water thoroughly when you do.

When watering the Kalanchoe, one of the principles you need to follow is not to water unless the soil is dry, and to water thoroughly when you do. This means that when watering, you need to wait until the soil is completely dry before watering, otherwise the roots may rot.

Generally, in order to determine whether the Kalanchoe needs watering, you can insert a bamboo stick into the soil. If you find moisture on the bamboo stick after taking it out, it means that the soil is relatively moist and it is best not to water it.

Basically, when watering, just keep the soil in the pot moist. When watering, be sure to water thoroughly and water slowly. You can water back and forth several times. Be careful not to water too hard at once.

When watering, it is not recommended to use the immersion method.

Better dry than wet

Another principle to follow when watering Kalanchoe is to keep it dry rather than wet.

Although the soil of Kalanchoe needs to be kept moist when watering, especially when its flower buds are growing, during certain periods of time, it is necessary to keep the soil dry rather than wet when watering. These two time periods are the cold winter and the hot summer. When the temperature is above 35℃ or below 8℃, the water supply should be cut off.

In summer, the temperature is high and evaporation is fast. People will think that the soil is dry and water it frequently. But in fact, the air humidity is very high in summer. Although the surface of the soil is dry, the bottom is still not dry. Therefore, watering at this time will easily cause the soil to become moist and the roots to rot. In winter, if you water, the water temperature should be close to the indoor temperature, but try not to water it to avoid freezing and rotting of the plants.
