How to breed Milan and what to pay attention to

Milan reproduction method

The main way of propagating Milan is cutting propagation, which is a relatively fast method of propagation. Because it blooms more and bears less fruit, it is not ideal to rely on seed sowing for propagation. However, its natural way of reproducing offspring is through seeds.

Milan breeding time

It is more appropriate to carry out Milan cutting propagation in April to August each year. If it is in the northern region, then June is the best time to do it. The climate at this time is suitable and the survival rate of cuttings is high.

Milan breeding method

Milan cutting propagation

Milan cuttings are usually carried out from April to June. Select healthy Milan plants and cut one-year-old woody branches as cuttings. The length of the cutting should be about 10 cm. Remove the leaves in the middle and lower parts and flatten the bottom.

The substrate for Milan cuttings is generally vermiculite or coarse sand. Place it in a sunny place for exposure to the sun before use. Use a bamboo chopstick to poke a hole in the prepared substrate and insert the branch into it. The depth is about 1/3 of the length of the branch. Compact the soil to ensure that the substrate and the cutting fit together. Water it thoroughly and maintain good ventilation.

Milan seed propagation

Sow the seeds of Milan flowers evenly on the soil surface, cover the surface of the seeds with 2 cm thick soil, and then water them. Be sure to water them thoroughly and prevent water from accumulating in the pot, otherwise the seeds will be difficult to germinate.

Hydroponic Milan propagation

Cut a vigorously growing branch from Milan, apply rooting liquid to it, then insert it into a foam board, and then place it in a container filled with water, with the bottom of the branch submerged in the water. After that, change the water every three days and wait for it to grow roots.

Milan breeding precautions

When breeding Milan, you need to pay attention to using loose and fertile soil for cultivation. Generally, you can use peat soil and river sand to prepare the potting soil. Usually, you need to provide sufficient light. During the maintenance process, you need to water it appropriately to keep the soil moist, but not too wet, to avoid water accumulation and root rot.
