How to Prune Lucky Bamboo

How to Prune Lucky Bamboo

Why pruning is necessary

Lucky bamboo has a strong growth ability. If it is well cared for, it can grow to several dozen centimeters in a year. If its growth is not restricted, it can grow to about 2.5 meters. But how could the small Kong family accommodate them? Look at the picture below. The buds have grown very long, even longer than the lucky bamboo itself. Now it is time to trim them!

Required Tools

Since it is a very simple method, the tools are also simple, a pair of gardening shears. Of course, ordinary household scissors can also be used, but they must be sharp.

Potassium permanganate can be found in general pharmacies at 1 yuan per bag. Just add a little bit when using. One pack can be used for a long time and is a very good disinfectant.

Pruning methods

Use scissors to cut off the buds, with the cutting position about 0.5 cm away from the mother plant. (One snip and it's done)

The incision after trimming.

Afterwards, let the incision dry and then soak it in potassium permanganate solution for 30 minutes for disinfection to prevent infection.

The incision looks like this after disinfection.

Finally, put the lucky bamboo back into the bottle for maintenance.

Editor's suggestion

The pruning method is so simple. In the above article, the editor demonstrated the pruning method of hydroponic lucky bamboo. The principle is the same for soil cultivation. However, if you are growing the plant in soil, do not remove it from the pot. Just prune and disinfect it directly in the original pot.
