When and how to change the soil of Epiphyllum

When and how to change the soil of Epiphyllum

Time to change the soil of Epiphyllum

The soil of Epiphyllum needs to be changed after a period of maintenance. It is usually done in spring every year, specifically in March and April. It can also be repotted around September in autumn. It requires suitable soil, and the selected flowerpot must also be of the right size.

Epiphyllum repotting and soil changing order

1. Prepare the potting soil: Epiphyllum grows relatively fast. If the pot and soil are not changed for a long time, the original pot will be difficult to accommodate its growth and the root development will be restricted. Therefore, the pot should be changed every one or two years. The soil should be acidic and rich in humus to ensure good air permeability.

2. Stop watering and remove the pot: Before repotting the Epiphyllum, it is not suitable to water the pot for ease of operation. You can stop watering a few days in advance and keep the pot soil dry. When the soil is dry, it will be easier to remove the pot.

3. Prune the roots: After the Epiphyllum is removed from the pot, remove the old soil on the roots, then cut off the rotten roots and old roots, apply charcoal powder on the pruned wounds, and then set them aside to dry.

4. Planting in pots: Spread a layer of soil in the pot, then plant the Epiphyllum plant in it and gently press the soil tightly.

Precautions for changing the soil of Epiphyllum

You must be careful when changing the soil of Epiphyllum. It needs to be done in spring every year and before germination. Young plants generally need to be repotted once a year, while adults need to do it once every 2-3 years. Do not water them a few days before repotting.

What soil should be used for changing the soil of Epiphyllum

It is better to use sandy soil when repotting Epiphyllum. Sandy soil is loose and fertile, has good drainage and good air permeability. You can choose garden soil, leaf mold, and fine sand to prepare it, which will greatly help its growth.

Changing the soil and applying base fertilizer for Epiphyllum

When changing the soil of Epiphyllum, you can apply tofu dregs, organic fertilizer, compound fertilizer, etc., so that it can grow well.

Maintenance method of Epiphyllum after soil change

1. Soil : There are certain requirements for the soil when growing Epiphyllum. Use two parts of peat soil and one part of slag as the bedding.

2. Watering : Epiphyllum cannot be watered immediately after repotting. Generally, it can be watered after a week. You can spray it with some water two days after repotting. Just keep the soil moist.

3. Water : The soil in the pot should not have too much water during maintenance. The light requirements for Epiphyllum cultivation are not high. It is generally placed in a semi-shaded and ventilated place and kept bright.

4. Temperature : Keep the temperature at around ten degrees, the humidity should not be too high, just keep the soil in the pot moist. Watering is mainly by spraying, and water should not accumulate in the pot.

5. See the sun : Epiphyllum can see the sun about a week after the soil is changed. Before that, it needs to be placed in a cool place for maintenance, and it must be exposed to light when appropriate.

6. Yellowing leaves : There are many reasons why the leaves of Epiphyllum turn yellow. It may be because the soil is not suitable and needs to be replaced with loose and fertile new soil. If there is insufficient light, it needs to be placed in a bright place to receive scattered light.
