When is the best time to plant fruit radish (the best planting time and method in the north)

Fruit radish likes a warm environment and can thrive and germinate well at the right temperature. According to its growth habits, the best planting period is from mid-to-late spring to the end of April or from early August to early October in autumn , when the temperature is suitable and conducive to growth.

Fruit radish planting time

The sowing time for fruit radish is March to April in spring and August to October in autumn. The planting time in greenhouse is October to March. The sowing time will vary in different regions and varieties.

Fruit radishes are usually planted in early August in the north . If they are planted during this period, they can be harvested in late autumn or early winter . In late August and early September, fruit radishes can be planted in southern regions such as Jiangsu and Zhejiang.

Fruit radish planting method

1. Choose the soil

Fruit and vegetable radishes like to grow in deep, loose, neutral, slightly acidic soil, so when choosing soil, it is best to choose sandy loam that is fertile, well-drained, and has a pH of about 6.5.

2. Field planting

(1) Deeply till the soil : Before planting radishes, deep till the soil 15 days in advance and deep till the soil every 2-3 days to ensure that the soil is loose for later planting.

(2) Sowing technology : When sowing, the yield is 250-300g of seeds per mu. Sow 2-3 seeds in each hole, preferably 20-25cm, and then cover with a small amount of fine soil. Wait for the seeds to germinate and grow leaves.

(3) Thinning and transplanting : When the fruit radish seedlings have 5-6 leaves, they need to be transplanted once. For seedlings that are short or poorly developed, one seedling can be left in each hole.

(4) Intertillage and weeding : Choose a sunny day to carry out 2-3 intertillage and weeding on the soil, and stop weeding after the plants are sealed.

(5) Water management : Water the plants immediately after sowing. The water should generally be enough to soak the soil. During the growth period of seedlings, the amount of watering can be reduced appropriately, but the soil must be kept moist. When the plants are in the fleshy expansion stage, the amount of watering can be increased appropriately to ensure that the roots have sufficient water.

3. Fertilizer management

(1) Fertilization principles : In the early growth stage of fruit radish, you can apply some organic fertilizer or nitrogen fertilizer appropriately. In the middle and late growth stages, you can apply phosphorus, potassium, etc. appropriately. This will help promote adequate nutrition for the root system and accelerate its expansion.

(2) Fertilization method : During the growth process of fruit radish, the fertilizer requirements are not too high. Generally, 0.5 kg of borax, 8 kg of magnesium, 10 kg of urea, 15 kg of potassium fertilizer (potassium sulfate), and 40 kg of compound fertilizer can be applied per mu of land. Organic fertilizer, compound fertilizer, and medium and trace element fertilizer are 100% of the base fertilizer, while potassium fertilizer and urea are topdressing.
