Time and method of changing soil for orchids

Time to change the soil of orchid grass

Changing the soil for orchids should generally be done in spring or autumn, in March in spring or September or October in autumn. If changing the soil in spring, it must be done after the climate becomes warmer. It cannot be done when the weather is cold, otherwise it will not be conducive to its growth.

How to repot orchids

1. Choose a flower pot: The new pot you choose should be suitable for the size of the orchid. Generally, you can choose a flower pot that is slightly larger and deeper than the root system of the plant. The flower pot should be breathable enough. You can use a clay pot or a purple clay pot.

2. Remove the orchid from the pot: To remove the orchid from the pot, first place the pot horizontally, then use one hand to squeeze out the drainage hole of the pot, and use the other hand to hold the orchid to prevent it from falling to the ground. Then, pat the bottom of the plant with your hand to remove the loose soil on it.

3. Re-potting: First fill a layer of gravel in the new pot as a drainage layer, then fill in some soft and breathable planting material, then put the orchid in the new pot, fill in the remaining new soil, and compact the soil surface.

Precautions for changing soil for orchids

1. When changing the soil for orchids, you need to pay attention to using slightly acidic soil for replanting, and apply some organic fertilizer at the bottom of the pot to help the plant obtain more nutrients. When changing the soil, you also need to trim its roots and cut off those roots that are poorly grown and rotten.

2. It is best to choose loose and breathable soil for planting orchids. You can add some rotten soil with rotten leaves, or you can add some foam plastic.

3. It is better to change the soil for orchids and apply organic fertilizer as base fertilizer. This fertilizer can meet the growth needs of the plants.

Maintenance method of orchid after soil change

1. Watering: How to water the orchid after changing the soil depends on the soil. If we use wet soil for potting, then there is no need to water it. If it is potted with dry soil and there are no wounds on the roots, then it needs to be watered after changing the soil.

2. Fertilization: Do not apply fertilizer after changing the soil for the orchid, because the orchid will not absorb the fertilizer and the fertilizer will accumulate in the soil. As the water content decreases, the concentration of the fertilizer will become higher, which will cause the roots of the orchid to be burned. Wait until the orchid has adapted to the pot before applying fertilizer.

3. Position: After the orchid is repotted, it is not very adaptable to an environment with direct sunlight. It is best to place the orchid in an environment with scattered light. At the same time, one thing to pay attention to is ventilation. An overly stuffy environment is not conducive to the plant's adaptation to the pot.

4. See the sun : After changing the soil of the orchid, the plant should be placed in a warm and well-ventilated environment for maintenance. It should not be placed in a dark place for a long time. It is best to place the plant in a place with sufficient scattered light, such as under the shade of trees, on a balcony, etc.

5. Yellow leaves : There is no need to worry if the leaves of orchids turn yellow after changing the soil. This is a normal phenomenon. This is because the roots of the plant are injured when repotting, resulting in reduced absorption of water and nutrients, which ultimately causes the leaves to lose water and turn yellow.
