Chicory Growth Environmental Conditions and Requirements

Chicory is widely distributed in Europe, Asia and Africa, and is often found in wastelands, river banks, ditches, hillsides and other places. It prefers a cool and humid climate environment and has good cold and salt resistance.

Chicory growing temperature

Chicory prefers medium to low temperatures, and the temperature requirements are different at different stages. For example, the optimal temperature for seed germination is 15°C, and the suitable temperature for leaf growth is 11-18°C.

Chicory Growth Humidity

Chicory prefers a humid growing environment, and the relative humidity of the air is best around 60-80%. However, if the humidity is too high, it may also cause diseases such as downy mildew and rot.

Chicory growing soil

Chicory is not very demanding on the soil and can grow well in grasslands, fields, wastelands, slopes, etc. The best soil pH value is between 6-7.

Chicory Growth Cycle and Process

The growth cycle of the chicory plant is about 230 days. It is usually sown in late August, and seedlings will emerge in September. It will start to turn green in March of the following year, and stems will emerge and buds will appear in May. The seeds will mature in August, and the plant will stop growing in October-November.
