Lotus root is the underground stem of the lotus. It is generally crispy and can be eaten raw or fried. It generally prefers to grow in a warm, humid and well-lit environment, and has high requirements for temperature and humidity during its growth period.

Lotus root growth temperature

Lotus root likes warmth. Generally, after receiving sufficient sunlight, the optimal growth temperature of lotus root is around 25-35 degrees, and the water temperature for maintenance is most suitable at 24-29 degrees. When the ambient temperature is lower than 5 degrees, the lotus root will stop growing.

Lotus root growth humidity

Lotus root likes a humid environment and has a relatively large demand for water during the entire growth period. When the lotus root begins to sprout, the water level of about 10 cm is most suitable. When the lotus root begins to grow, water needs to be replenished in time.

Lotus root growing soil

Lotus root has very strict requirements on soil. Generally, when planting, the nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium content of the soil will be more important. Therefore, it is more suitable to be planted in alkaline loam, sandy loam or leaf mold that is rich in organic matter and not compacted.

Lotus root growth cycle and process

The growth cycle of lotus root is not very long. It usually only takes 2 or 3 months to mature. The growth period of lotus root is about 200-300 days. Generally, early-maturing green lotus roots can be harvested in August in autumn, and fully mature lotus roots can be harvested in March or April of the following year.
