When to plant edamame

Edamame is the pods and seeds of soybeans. They can be planted in February and March in spring and April and May in summer. March is the most suitable month for planting. The latest time for planting should not exceed July. Edamame is usually planted by sowing.

Planting time in the north and south: There are differences in the time suitable for planting edamame in the south and the north. In the south, edamame is generally planted around March, while in the north it is planted around April each year.

Greenhouse planting time: Edamame can be grown in greenhouses. Generally, edamame can be planted in greenhouses in December or January. In this way, when the lentil seedlings grow out and are transplanted, the climate will become warmer.

Edamame Origin and Planting Month

There are many places where edamame is produced. You can pick the soybeans when they are relatively tender and make them into edamame. The main producing areas of edamame are generally Gansu, Hebei, Hubei, Hunan, Guizhou, Heilongjiang, Northeast China, Sichuan, Shaanxi, Shandong, Henan and Beijing.

Heilongjiang edamame

The edamame in Heilongjiang is planted in March and April every year and will mature in June and July in summer. The edamame pods produced in Heilongjiang will grow fuller and the beans will grow fresher and tenderer.

Sichuan edamame

Edamame in Sichuan is usually planted around April and can be harvested in July. The skin of the edamame pods produced in Sichuan is relatively thin and easy to peel off, and the bean grains are plump and tender green.

Edamame varieties and planting months

There are many varieties of edamame. The most common ones are Emerald Edamame, Edamame 292, Edamame 305, Edamame 75, White Water Bean, Big Green Silk, August Yellow and Large Edamame. They all have good taste and quality.

Edamame 292

Dongnong 55 edamame is generally grown more in the south and grows faster, usually taking only 3 months to mature. Edamame 292 has good disease resistance and the protein and fat content in the pods are relatively high.

Edamame 305

Edamame 305 is usually planted in autumn and can be harvested 75 days after planting. The plants of Edamame 305 grow very strong and are not easy to fall over. The dry grain protein content is relatively high and has good nutritional value.
