Lighting requirementsAzalea is a long-day plant that likes light but avoids direct sunlight. If azalea is placed on a balcony with sufficient light, the normal metabolic function of the leaves will be damaged, the chlorophyll will be destroyed, the edges of the leaves will turn from green to brown, and leaves will fall off and the plant will age. Therefore, azaleas should be placed indoors away from heating and air conditioning, where they can see sunlight but not direct sunlight. After the azalea blooms, the temperature should be lowered appropriately, which will help prolong the flowering period. If the temperature can be kept below 10 °C, the flowers can last up to 80 days. If the temperature reaches above 20 °C, the flowers will usually only last for 30 days. Watering methodWatering azaleas seems simple, but if the water is not properly controlled, it will directly affect the ornamental effect and normal growth of the azaleas, and in severe cases it may even lead to death. Although rhododendron has a relatively strong root system, its roots are as thin as hair and are afraid of waterlogging and cannot tolerate drought. Excessive dryness or wetness can easily cause poor growth. Watering must be done in the right amount and at the right time, and should be done flexibly according to changes in seasons and weather. During the flowering period, water should be applied every other day. After flowering, water should be applied every two or three days. Each time you water, make sure to water thoroughly and sufficiently. Water quality and temperature also have a great impact on the growth of rhododendrons. Since rhododendrons prefer acid and the water quality in northern regions is more alkaline, if you use tap water to water the flowers, you must first store it for two or three days. Wait until the chlorine produced by the bleaching powder in the water is completely decomposed and volatilized, and the water temperature is close to the air temperature before you can use it. Humidity requirementsWhen growing rhododendrons at home, it is also necessary to adjust the humidity if conditions permit. For example, you can often spray water around the plants or on the ground to increase the humidity of the environment. However, if the azalea has already bloomed, try not to spray water on the flowers, otherwise it will promote the withering of the flowers and affect the ornamental effect. |
