How to maintain the lotus

How to maintain the lotus

Growth conditions of the lotus

The stamen plant likes warm and dry environment and strong light. It cannot grow without sunlight during its growth. If the light intensity is not met, its leaves will fall off or grow wildly. It is suitable for growing in loose and breathable soil. Since it is easy to overflow the pot, it needs to be grown in a larger pot.

How to grow the lotus

To grow the lotus, use peat soil, perlite and vermiculite to prepare the potting soil. The surface can be covered with river sand to enhance air permeability. It needs to be placed in a place exposed to light on a daily basis. In the summer, water it 4 to 5 times a month. It does not need to be watered thoroughly. In winter, as long as the temperature is below 5 degrees Celsius, water should be gradually cut off.

Son holding lotus and watering

The lotus plant needs to be watered 4-5 times a month in the summer. Do not water it too much, so as to maintain the normal growth of the plant. Once the temperature in winter drops below 3 degrees, the soil in the pot needs to be kept dry.

Zi holds lotus to apply fertilizer

The demand for fertilizer of the Ligustrum lucidum is not high. Even during the growing season, it only needs to be fertilized once a month. If too much fertilizer is applied, it will easily cause fertilizer damage and burn its roots. When it reaches the dormant period and the plant stops growing, you can stop fertilizing.

Pest and disease control of lotus

The three main insecticides that can be used to prevent insects in succulent plants are potassium permanganate, thiophanate-methyl and carbendazim. Potassium permanganate is usually used before planting succulents, and it can be used to disinfect flower pots, while thiophanate-methyl and carbendazim are usually used before the peak period of insect infestation in succulents.

The method of raising a child holding a lotus at home

1. When raising the lotus at home, except for the need for appropriate shading in the summer, it needs more sunlight in other seasons. In winter, it can safely overwinter by keeping the maintenance temperature above 5℃.

2. During the growth period of the lotus, you should follow the principle of "watering thoroughly when the soil is dry". Wait until the soil is completely dry before watering thoroughly. Water it about once a week. The temperature is low in winter, and the lotus is dormant. You should control the water appropriately or even cut off the water. There is no need to apply fertilizer during normal maintenance. Just bury the base fertilizer each time you plant.

Precautions for the maintenance of lotus

After the succulent plant blooms, the flowering stems and leaves will die. However, before blooming, the succulent will give birth to many small plants next to the mother plant. We can wait for the small plants to grow up and then divide and transplant them. Just cut off the connection between the small plants and the mother plant. It is very easy.
