Does yam have flowers? How to grow yam flowers?

1. Are there any flowers?

Yams have flowers. It is a perennial vine of the Dioscorea genus of the Dioscorea family. Its tubers are oblong, usually growing vertically and can reach 1 meter in length. The stem is purple-red and hairless. The leaves are simple, alternate at the bottom and opposite at the top. Its flowers bloom from June to September, and the inflorescence is spike-shaped, with 2-8 male inflorescences and only 1-3 female inflorescences.

2. How to raise

1. Soil: Generally, you need to use a deeper pot to grow yam. Its rhizome grows vertically, and it can only grow longer if the soil layer is deep. In addition, the soil should be loose, fertile and have good drainage, so as to avoid the potting soil being too moist and affecting the development of the plant. In addition, you can also mix a certain amount of base fertilizer into the soil to provide nutrients for its growth.

2. Light: Yam likes light, but it is a short-day plant. You must pay attention to controlling the length of light. If the light time is too long, although the branches and leaves will grow lush, the roots and stems will not grow well, and the flowering period will also be delayed. Normally, it should be exposed to strong light every day, but not for too long, so as to promote the development of rhizomes.

3. Watering: Yam has good drought resistance and does not require much water, so it does not need too much watering. Usually you should water after the soil is completely dry, so as to avoid the soil being too wet and inhibiting the respiration of the roots. If you water too much, you need to drain the excess water immediately and increase ventilation to allow the water to evaporate quickly.

4. Fertilization: The demand for fertilizer during the growth period of yam is not very high. You can add a little nitrogen fertilizer in the early stage to promote the growth of plant branches and leaves. In order to promote the differentiation of flower buds, you can apply some phosphorus and potassium fertilizers in the middle period. In the later stage, compound fertilizer should be applied to supplement more comprehensive nutrients.
