How to cultivate Zhizhihua

Growth conditions of chrysanthemum

Zhizhihua, also known as gardenia, prefers a slightly acidic soil environment and a warm, sunny environment. It needs shade in summer and is not cold-resistant. It is best to keep it indoors in winter. Zhizhihua likes moisture and needs to be provided with sufficient water.

How to grow Zhizhi flower

1. Suitable soil: First of all, suitable soil is needed. Chimonanthus likes fertile, well-drained, lightly sticky acidic soil. The pH value of the soil is most suitable between 4.0 and 6.5.

2. Suitable light: Zhizhihua prefers a semi-shaded growing environment and must not be exposed to direct sunlight. It is suitable to be maintained in a position where it can receive scattered sunlight. It can grow in a dark place, but if it is kept in a dark place for a long time, the branches will grow too long and affect flowering. When the light is strong in summer, it needs to be shaded to avoid sunburn.

3. Suitable temperature: Zhizhihua likes a warm environment. The most suitable temperature for its growth is between 18 and 22 degrees. The temperature in winter needs to be maintained above 5 degrees to avoid frostbite that affects its flowering next year. In the cold north, the Zhizhihua can be placed in a sunny place indoors in winter and moved outdoors in April of the following year.

4. Adequate water: Zhizhihua likes a humid growing environment. It needs to be watered enough during daily maintenance, but there should be no water accumulation. The soil should always be kept moist. The weather is hot in summer and water evaporates quickly, so it needs to be watered in time, and water should be sprayed on the leaves and in the air to cool down in time.

Watering the Chichi Flower

Zhizhihua likes a humid environment. When the temperature rises in summer, it needs to be watered in the morning and evening. If the air humidity is lower than 70%, it will affect flowering, but too much humidity will cause root rot and branch withering. Therefore, watering should be controlled. You can spray the leaves with clean water frequently to increase the humidity of the environment.

Fertilization of Zhizhihua

Before planting Zhizhihua, you can apply sufficient base fertilizer to allow the plant to have enough nutrients to grow. The base fertilizer should also avoid contact with the root system. It is best to fill the soil between the fertilizer and the root system. Apply thin fertilizer once every 15 days during the vigorous growth period. Fertilizing before flowering can promote flowering.

Zhizhihua pest control

The common pest of Zhizhihua is red spider mites, which need to be eliminated by rinsing with clean water, or spraying with water soaked with cigarette butts. If scale insects appear, you can spray DDT to kill the insects.

How to grow Zhizhihua at home

To grow Cicada ovata at home, you need to provide loose, fertile, and breathable weakly acidic soil. The ambient temperature should be between 20-28°C, and ensure sufficient water and sufficient light. When you find long branches, cut them off in time.

Precautions for Zhizhihua maintenance

Zhizhihua is not tolerant to concentrated fertilizers. During the growth period, it can be applied with decomposed cake fertilizer water or manure water once every 15 days. If the soil is alkaline, some ferrous sulfate can be added. The plant cannot tolerate strong light in summer and needs to be shielded from ordinary sunlight. It is best to keep it under scattered light so that it can see light in the morning and evening to prevent yellowing of the leaves.
