How to grow Clivia in winter

How to grow Clivia in winter

1. Lighting

Winter is the growing season for Clivia, which needs sufficient light, but it cannot accept direct sunlight for a long time and must accept bright scattered light. When caring for it indoors, you can place it in a bright living room or near a window, making sure there is light. Clivia has a strong characteristic of chasing light, and its leaf tips will face the direction of the light source, so each time the pot is turned, it should be rotated 180 degrees so that the leaves will grow symmetrically on both sides.

2. Temperature

This plant needs to be kept indoors in winter because it can grow normally at a temperature of around 10-15 degrees, and can also withstand low temperatures for a period of time, and can occasionally withstand temperatures below zero, but long-term low temperatures or temperatures below 0 degrees will cause frostbite, so be careful to avoid it.

Sometimes, in order to promote the flowering of the plant, we can intentionally create a period of low temperature from late autumn to early winter, that is, a low temperature of about 5 degrees, which is more conducive to the flowering of Clivia. After the plant has produced flower buds, we recommend that the temperature be controlled at around 15-18 degrees. If the temperature continues to be too low, the flower arrow will be pinched. If the temperature is too high, the flower arrow may appear thin and weak, which is not conducive to plant growth.

three. Fertilizer

In winter, you should control water appropriately, reduce the amount of water, and keep the soil surface slightly dry. Appropriate topdressing is needed during the growing period. About every 10 days, give Clivia a thin nitrogen fertilizer, such as a vegan compound fertilizer dissolved in water, or our homemade organic fertilizer. Follow the principle of applying thin fertilizers frequently, multiple times, and in small amounts each time. In this way, Clivia can grow more normally.
