How to grow peony in autumn

How to grow peony in autumn

1. Change the soil

After autumn, you can change the soil for peonies. It prefers slightly acidic flower soil with good air permeability, which can be made by mixing peat soil, garden soil and river sand. Be careful when changing the soil so as not to damage its fleshy root system, otherwise it may cause poor growth. In addition, the frequency of changing the soil should not be too high, generally once every 2-3 years is sufficient. If you have already replaced it that year, there is no need to replace it again.

2. Late autumn pruning

After entering late autumn, it is time to prepare for winter. At this time, you can do appropriate pruning to cut off the messy, unnecessary branches and leaves on the plant to reduce nutrient consumption. This will allow it to overwinter more easily and will not be prone to freezing to death or frostbite.

3. Sowing

If its seeds are collected in August when it bears fruit, it is best to sow them at this time. Because if it is stored for a long time or sown late, the probability of it germinating will be reduced.

The specific sowing method is to soak the seeds in water for a day, and then gently place them on the surface of flower soil with good air permeability. Keep a certain distance between seeds, at least 3cm. Cover it with a layer of fine soil and moisten the flower soil with water. Then put it in a warm place, water it every 2-3 days, and wait for it to sprout.
