Cultural legend of Songmei

Song Mei has her current status thanks to Song Jinxuan.

Song Jinxuan was from Shaoxing, Zhejiang Province. During the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty, he was a successful businessman. Song Jinxuan was a well-known wealthy man in the local area. He had no bad habits and only loved to grow orchids. He often spent a lot of money to buy orchids. His home was close to the mountains, so he often went to the mountains to pick orchids, but he never came across any good orchids, which he felt was a pity.

One year after the Lantern Festival, Song Jinxuan had a dream at night. He dreamed that an old woman brought a beautiful little girl to him for shelter, hoping that he could take care of the little girl. He readily agreed, and after waking up, he suddenly realized that it was just a dream. A few days later, Song Jinxuan went up the mountain to look for orchids. He brought an orchid he found by chance back home and planted it. Soon the orchid blossomed. The flowers were very beautiful, just like a young girl, graceful and charming. Song Jinxuan suddenly felt that the flower was like the little girl he had dreamed of, so he took better care of it.

Later, this orchid was named: Songmei.
