How to prune the roots of Lithops

How to prune the roots of Lithops

1. Root repair is required

The newly bought lithops usually do not come with soil and pots, so we need to process them before putting them in the pots. Before potting, you need to trim the roots first. Root pruning is a very necessary step. Firstly, its chances of survival will be higher if the roots are trimmed before potting. Secondly, root pruning will promote the germination of new roots and grow a strong root system.

2. How to repair roots

1. The main work is to shorten most of the roots. Just keep about one centimeter.

2. In addition, it is best to cut off all the fibrous roots, and retain one or two main roots. Don't leave all the roots, otherwise the plant will easily fall over when it is potted.

3. Also, do not keep those roots that are rotten or infested with diseases and insects. There are also some roots that have dried up and died, which need to be carefully observed and found and cut off.

3. Notes

1. After pruning the roots, do not pot the plant immediately. Place it in a cool, well-ventilated place for a while, and then put it in a pot after the wounds have dried. After potting, it should also be placed in a ventilated and cool place.

2. Then there is the issue of watering after potting. Don’t water the plants immediately after potting them. Wait three or four days before watering them again. It is better to use water mixed with fungicides.

3. The matrix should also be breathable and loose.
