How to prune geraniums

How to prune geraniums

1. Autumn pruning

No matter which plant you want to prune, autumn is the most suitable time, especially geraniums, which almost enter a semi-dormant period and stop growing due to the hot summer. Autumn pruning can promote the sprouting of new buds and remove weak, yellow, diseased and insect-infested branches, as well as inward-growing branches. Keep the height of the branches consistent when pruning.

2. Pruning above the stems and leaves

When pruning geraniums, be sure to choose above the stems and leaves, preferably close to the base, otherwise it is easy to cause half-cut branches. Sometimes, even if you prune above the stems and leaves, necrosis will occur in the pit. If you find yellowing below the wound after pruning, be sure to remove the yellow part in time and apply a healing agent to the wound. Otherwise, the wound will turn black and necrotic.
