Rose cultivation methods and precautions

Rose cultivation methods and precautions

1. Lighting

Roses need full sunlight to grow, so try to get as much sunlight as possible. A shady environment will make them grow weak and not conducive to flowering.

2. Temperature

It likes a cool temperature environment, is cold-resistant and afraid of extreme heat. The suitable temperature for growth is between 5 and 25 degrees. Long-term high temperature above 30 degrees will seriously affect its growth and even cause it to enter a dormant state.

3. Water

It requires relatively moist soil and high air humidity. Water must be replenished in time during maintenance. It can tolerate short-term drought conditions, but long-term dryness will affect its growth.

4. Soil

It has strict requirements on the soil, which must be loose, fertile, slightly acidic and rich in organic matter, so heavy calcium soil is not conducive to the growth of roses. If it is a potted plant, the potting soil should be updated every 1-2 years to meet its soil requirements.

5. Fertilization

Roses need more fertilizer to grow larger flowers. In the early stages of cultivation, you should apply enough base fertilizer. Except for the high temperature dormant period, apply thin liquid fertilizer every 10-15 days.

6. Pests and diseases

During the growth process of roses, many diseases and pests may occur, such as leaf spot disease, powdery mildew, etc., and insect pests include red spider mites, aphids and leaf spikes. During maintenance, protective agents should be sprayed regularly at the beginning of each season to prevent infection by pathogens. Once pests and diseases are discovered, preventive measures should be taken in a timely manner to prevent their spread.

7. Pruning

Pruning is also very important when caring for roses, which are divided into a dormant period and a growing period. During the dormant period, the main task is heavy pruning to shape the flowers. During the growing period, the remaining flowers are cut off when they are about to fade, so as to promote the re-branching and formation of new flower buds under the cut buds.
