Single-headed garlic is a relatively unique variety of garlic. It is very popular among consumers because of its large size, high quality, stronger spiciness, beautiful appearance, rich nutrition, and easy peeling. Because single-headed garlic has high yield, high selling price and good benefits, it has become the main way for many farmers to increase their income. So how to grow single-headed garlic with good yield and high quality? Let’s take a look below. 1. Choose the variety Choose single-headed garlic varieties that have good adaptability, are resistant to low temperatures, are resistant to diseases and drought, and have stable and high yields. Choose disease-free, insect-free and undamaged single-headed garlic, and mix the seeds with pesticides before sowing. This will not only promote germination and rooting, but also prevent underground diseases and pests of garlic. 2. Sow at the right time The sowing time of single-headed garlic is the same as that of ordinary garlic. The land should be carefully prepared before sowing. In combination with land preparation, 200 to 300 kilograms of 45% potassium sulfate compound fertilizer should be applied per mu. It is usually sown from late September to early October, with a row spacing of 20 cm and a plant spacing of 10 cm, and about 3,000 plants are planted per mu. 3. Water regularly After sowing garlic, water the field in time: after all the water has seeped in, spray the garlic field with a closed herbicide , using 200 ml of 45% cethoclase emulsifiable concentrate per mu, add 20 kg of water and spray evenly on the ground to prevent weeds. Then cover the ground with mulch to keep warm and retain moisture. Single-headed garlic has a high demand for water during its growth process, so it needs to be watered regularly to keep the soil moist. Water the garlic sufficiently from sowing to germination. Before the garlic turns green, water it once to promote the greening of the stems and leaves. As the temperature rises, the garlic begins to swell, and you can water it once to promote the swelling of the underground bulbs and improve the yield and quality of garlic. 4. Fertilize at the right time Garlic needs a lot of nutrients during its growth process. In addition to applying sufficient base fertilizer, topdressing is also required, especially during the bolting period and before the bulb expands. Generally, 20 kg of urea is applied per mu each time to meet the growth needs of single garlic. 5. Pay attention to preventing diseases and pests Garlic is planted in high density and takes a long time to grow, so it is prone to diseases and insect pests, so it must be sprayed with pesticides regularly. In the early stage of growth, attention should be paid to preventing garlic root rot, leaf blight, garlic maggots and other pests and diseases. In the middle and late stages of growth, attention should be paid to preventing garlic leaf blight, rust and other diseases. Biological pesticides or high-efficiency and low-toxic chemical pesticides can be used for prevention and control. 6. Harvest in time When the garlic cloves grow large enough, the skin cracks, and the leaves at the base begin to turn yellow, it means that the single garlic cloves are mature. Harvesting is done manually or mechanically. When harvesting, try to avoid damaging the garlic and garlic leaves to avoid affecting storage and quality. That’s it |
