When is the best time to take cuttings of roses? Which month is suitable for taking cuttings?

Rose cutting time

Rose cuttings are generally carried out during their growing season, that is, in spring and autumn. When using young buds for cuttings, late spring and early autumn are the best time; when using branches for cuttings, early spring and late autumn will be better.

Rose cutting method

1. Choose branches : Generally, choose strong and hard branches with a length of 7-13 cm and 3-4 buds. Then remove the lower leaves and cut the lower incision into a slope to increase the contact area with the soil and facilitate rooting.

2. Preparation of potting soil : Roses must be planted in acidic soil containing humus. You can add a little river sand to increase its drainage. Do not add base fertilizer to the soil used for cuttings, otherwise it will be detrimental to the rooting of the plants.

3. Carry out cuttings : Use a small stick to poke a 5 cm deep hole in the potting soil, insert the branch into it, compact the soil and water it thoroughly. If the temperature is too low, you can cover it with plastic film and place it in the sun.

Rose cuttings precautions

The key to whether the rose cuttings can survive lies in three factors: ventilation, temperature and water. The branches need to be ventilated regularly every day to ensure air circulation. The temperature should be controlled at around 22-28℃ so that the branches are easier to take root. At the same time, do not water too much, just spray moderately.
