The whole process of ginger planting

The whole process of ginger planting

Ginger is usually planted around the Qingming Festival every year, which is from March to April. In the north, the time is usually a little later, and it is usually planted from April to May every year. Below, the editor will introduce the whole process of ginger planting , let’s take a look.

1. Land preparation and fertilization

Ginger prefers deep, fertile, well-drained soil. Before planting, the land needs to be deeply plowed to a depth of about 30 cm. Deep plowing can increase the air permeability of the soil and is beneficial to the growth of ginger. At the same time, remove weeds and rocks and make sure the soil is level. Before sowing, apply sufficient base fertilizer. The base fertilizer is mainly composed of decomposed farmyard manure, and an appropriate amount of potassium fertilizer can also be added. After fertilizing, deep plowing and land preparation should be carried out to ensure that the fertilizer is fully mixed with the soil.

2. Choose ginger

Choose healthy, pest-free, high-yielding and high-quality ginger as seed ginger. The size of the ginger seeds should be moderate, and each piece of ginger should have 1-2 plump buds. Avoid misshapen or damaged pieces of ginger.

3. Germination treatment

Place the selected ginger seeds in an environment with a temperature of about 2225℃ for germination. During the germination period, a certain humidity and ventilation need to be maintained to prevent the ginger seeds from becoming moldy. The germination time is generally about 20 days. When the ginger sprouts grow to 0.51 cm, they can be sown.

4. Planting seeds

The sowing time is generally in spring when the soil temperature is above 16°C. When sowing, place the ginger pieces with the buds facing upwards and sow them at a row spacing of 40-50 cm and a plant spacing of 20-30 cm. Place one ginger seed in each hole, and cover the hole with soil that is 3-5 cm thick. Water in time after sowing to keep the soil moist.

5. Water and fertilizer management

During the growth of ginger, the soil needs to be kept moist. In the dry season, increase the frequency and amount of watering; in the rainy season, pay attention to drainage to prevent water accumulation and cause root rot of ginger. Appropriate amounts of fertilizer need to be applied to ginger during the seedling stage, growth stage and rhizome expansion stage. Nitrogen fertilizer is mainly used in the seedling stage to promote plant growth; compound fertilizer is mainly used in the growth period to provide comprehensive nutrients; potassium fertilizer is mainly used in the rhizome expansion period to promote the expansion of ginger.

6. Field management

When planting ginger, weeding should be done in time to prevent weeds from competing with ginger for nutrients and water. Weed control can be done by hand weeding or chemical herbicides . Combine fertilization with inter-row cultivation and weeding to build up the soil. If you are harvesting young ginger, build up the soil deeper. Generally, build up the soil 3-5 times. Use the soil from the ginger ridge each time. Later, turn the ginger ridge into a ginger ditch, and the original planting ditch into a ginger ridge.

7. Pest and disease control

The main diseases and pests of ginger include ginger blight, anthracnose, spot disease, eye spot disease, white star disease, root rot, as well as ginger borer, fall armyworm, small cutworm, and heteromorphic fungus gnat. During the planting process, pay attention to observe the growth of the plants, discover problems in time and take appropriate prevention and control measures for treatment. A combination of biological control and chemical control can be adopted to ensure the healthy growth of ginger.

The above is an introduction to the entire process of ginger planting. During the ginger growth cycle, special attention should be paid to pest and disease control, weeding and water management. Discovering and dealing with problems in a timely manner is conducive to the normal growth and high yield of ginger.
