Don’t use soil for cuttings now, just a piece of sponge will produce white roots, and the plants will 100% adapt to the pot!

Wall-hitting 3.0 sponge cutting method

Scope of application: Sponge cuttings are suitable for roses, jasmine, bougainvillea, pomegranates, clematis, honeysuckle, etc. Most of the flowers that are more resistant to moisture are suitable, but those that are prone to rot, such as karaoke and succulents, are not suitable.

How to do it:

1. Prepare the sponge and cut it into small pieces

Old sofa sponges, dishwashing sponges, and shoe-polishing sponges at home can be used, but they must be cleaned in advance. It will be bad if they have greasy substances and shoe polish on them. After processing, cut into mahjong-sized pieces and set aside.

2. Cut a slit in the sponge

What is demonstrated here is a new sponge, which has relatively large elasticity. Cut it in the middle, not too hard, just make sure it can be closed by the elastic force of the sponge.

3. Insert the flower branches

Put the flower branches to be cut into the gaps of the sponge.

4. Put it into the small slot

Most homes do not have small troughs for cuttings, so you can use mooncake troughs or snack troughs instead. After stuffing the cuttings with sponge, wet the sponge, place it in a ventilated and cool place, and wait for it to take root.

5. Keep the sponge moist

While waiting for rooting, keep the sponge moist. You will see roots emerging in about a week. The sponge cuttings can be picked up for inspection, which is a very convenient advantage.

6. When the root system grows to 2-3 cm, it can be transplanted

After about half a month of cuttings, dense white roots will emerge on the sponge, and then it can be planted in a pot. There is no need to remove small pieces of sponges, just cut off the excess from the large sponges and plant them in the soil together with the sponges.

7. After transplanting, the plant should be acclimatized like this

The flowers need more than a week to adapt after being transplanted. After planting and watering them thoroughly to help them take root, they should be placed in a ventilated environment at home. There is no need to water them every day. Water them again after about 3 days.

8. After acclimatization, slowly expose the plant to the sun

The flowers will slowly recover after acclimatizing and can be exposed to the sun for a while. The morning sun is the most precious and the flowers will grow faster if exposed to the sun. Gradually increase the time it spends in the sun every day, and it will be able to be maintained normally in about ten days.

Sponges can not only be used for cuttings, but also for hydroponics

Sponge cuttings are so good at rooting that we can also use them for hydroponics. For example, plants like green radish, arrowroot, and white calla lily can be grown with sponges, and they will take root quickly and have strong resistance!

How to do it:

1. Cut the sponge into a circle the same size as the mouth of the vase, and cut out a "Y" shape as shown in the picture below.

This is how you open it. There is only one notch to open it, and don't cut the other two.

2. Embed the flowers in the sponge

Embed the flower branches to be hydroponically cultivated into the sponge, leaving about 2 cm of the bottom exposed.

3. Put in the water-proof net

Generally, hydroponic bottles are equipped with a water-isolating net, and the sponge stuffed with flowers is placed inside.

4. Put it in the hydroponic pot

Fill the hydroponic flowerpot with water, but don't fill it too full so that it doesn't cover the sponge. Change the water every 3-5 days and the sponge every 1-2 months.

>>:  Growing flowers is like cutting leeks. After cutting them, new sprouts will appear. The leaves are as big as a palm and can climb up the wall!
