How to propagate the bird's nest by cuttings

How to propagate the bird's nest by cuttings

1. Cutting time

When it is cut, it is usually done in spring and autumn, when both the temperature and humidity are conducive to its growth.

2. Prepare the cuttings

In spring or autumn, the temperature at noon should not be higher than 28 degrees, and the temperature at night should not be lower than 15 degrees. Then choose thick branches, cut off the top, and the length is about 7 to 10 cm. Then put the cuttings in a cool place for 1 day, and wait until the wound is slightly dry before cutting.

3. Cutting medium

When choosing a cutting medium, you can use nutrient soil or river sand. If you are doing cuttings at home, you will never find an ideal cutting medium, so it is best to use a prepared one and disinfect it. It is actually okay to use medium-coarse river sand, but you need to wash it several times with water before using it. Also, remember that sea sand or river sand with a high salt content should not be used, as they are not conducive to plant growth.

4. Cuttings

Insert the dried cuttings into the substrate, then water them with an appropriate amount of water, without leaving any water stains. After 3 weeks, they will grow roots. In addition, you can also use single leaves for cuttings. After the leaves are dry, insert them into the sand bed. They will take root in about 4 weeks.

5. Maintenance after cutting

After cuttings, when the roots grow to 2 to 3 cm, you can pot it. Then give it proper watering and light, and soon it will grow into a new plant.
