How to propagate chrysanthemum

How to propagate chrysanthemum

1. Seed propagation

First we need to collect its seeds, which is usually done from October to December. The collected seeds are saved and sown in the spring of the following year, usually indoors. Before sowing, you must first choose the soil. Generally, the soil should be loose and the soil must be disinfected first.

After planting the seeds in the soil, cover them with a thin layer of soil, or you can leave it uncovered. Then put a layer of plastic wrap on top to maintain moisture. Be sure to poke a few small holes in the film. Put it at a temperature of 20 to 25 degrees Celsius and it will sprout in about half a month. When 2 to 3 leaves grow, you can remove the film and let it gradually receive light. But don't put it in the sun. When the seedlings have 5 to 6 leaves, they can be planted in pots.

2. Cutting propagation

The timing of this reproduction is determined by when it blooms. After it blooms, cut it off from the base and place it with the pot in an environment of 5 degrees. After about one to two months, it will grow new shoots, and then you can move it to a warm room. At this time, you need to increase watering. After the new shoots grow long, you can cut off the weak branches and leave the stronger branches.

3. Division propagation

This type of propagation can be done when repotting. Generally, after flowering in autumn and winter, repotting or changing pots is done when the soil in the pot is relatively dry. After we move the plant out of the pot, we first need to cut off the old roots and residual roots, and then naturally split it into small plants. Each small plant should have some roots and foot buds, and then we can plant them separately in the seedbed.

4. Grafting propagation

We can collect white or yellow wormwood seeds in autumn, or we can directly dig wild wormwood seedlings in spring and plant them in the seedbed. At this time, we need to increase water and fertilizer to make it stronger. In May or June, when the seedlings grow to 10 to 16 cm, you can cut the rootstock 6 to 7 cm from the ground. Then we need to prune it. After 14 days of pruning, we can use the cleft grafting method for grafting.

When grafting, first remove the leaves at the interface, be careful to avoid the middle, about 2 to 3 cm long, and then quickly insert the chrysanthemum bud. Finally, fix them and use plastic bags to keep them moist until they survive.
