How to plant delphinium seeds

How to plant delphinium seeds

1. Seed collection

Delphinium seeds can be collected during the autumn flowering period and can be sown in spring and autumn. During this period, after picking the seeds in September and October, they can be refrigerated in sandy soil at low temperatures and can be planted in March or April of the following year. When picking seeds, choose seeds with healthy color and appearance, as they have a high survival rate.

2. Sowing Method

1. Soak the seeds in warm water for five hours, take them out and dry them;

2. Choose a container with good drainage performance, fill it with nutrient soil, plant the seeds, and cover it with a layer of soil about 5 mm thick. In the early stage, you need to cover it with a layer of straw mat to keep warm and retain water. The temperature should be controlled at around 15°C.

3. Always observe the sprouting situation. When the seeds begin to sprout and push the soil, remove the straw and move the potted plants to a bright place to receive light.

4. Wait for the seedlings to emerge, which will appear in about 10 days to half a month;

3. Seedling care

1. The newly emerged seedlings are still relatively fragile. Do not add too much water to prevent excessive water accumulation. You can make the loam a little drier and the temperature does not need to be too high.

2. When the seedlings grow two to four leaves, they can be transplanted. Keep the roots of the seedlings intact and shovel them out.

3. Prepare nutrient-rich and fertile sandy soil, put it in the pot, add base fertilizer, and transplant the shoveled seedlings into it.

4. In order to prevent the branches and leaves from falling over or bending, use a bracket to fix the main branches to provide support. After fixing, you can move it to a place with sufficient sunlight and good ventilation, and keep the temperature at room temperature.

5. When the plant grows 6 leaves, it can be transplanted and thinning can begin. Remove diseased and weak seedlings and increase nitrogen fertilizer.

6. It takes about 90 days from sowing to viewing, so be patient and protect it.
