How to grow Hoya

How to grow Hoya

1. Breeding environment

1. Soil: When growing Hoya, you need to choose soil with good air permeability. Soil with good air permeability is conducive to its growth and will not cause root rot.

2. Watering: Ball orchid does not need too much watering, just keep the soil moist. If you water it too much, the roots will rot. Generally, you can increase the watering appropriately in the hot summer, water it once a week in summer and once a month or a quarter in winter. If you are not sure about the amount of watering, you can water less and spray some water on the leaves frequently to increase the humidity of the air.

3. Light: It is best to place it in a sunny place. In summer, it is best not to expose it to direct sunlight. You can move it to a place with scattered light or take good shading measures, otherwise the leaves will turn from green to yellow. If you place it in a dark place for a long time, the color of the leaves will fade and the number of flowers will decrease.

4. Fertilization: Apply compound fertilizer or organic fertilizer to it, about once every 15 days during its growth period. It will enter a semi-dormant state in winter, so stop fertilizing at this time.

2. Breeding Methods

1. Propagation by cuttings: It is best to choose March or April every year for propagation. Choose relatively healthy old stems and cut them off. It is best to leave two nodes on each section. After drying, insert them into the soil, then water them and cover them with plastic wrap. Generally, roots will grow in about half a month.

2. Layering propagation: scratch the nodes of the stems, wrap them with film and tie them tightly. After roots take root, you can plant them in pots.

3. Pest and disease control

If you want to prevent diseases and pests in Hoya, you need to increase ventilation. If you find spots on the leaves or stems, you need to deal with them in time. You can buy pesticides for spraying. If you find insects, just wash them clean with clean water.
