How to grow gardenia in the north

1. Soil

Gardenia likes an acidic environment, so the soil must be acidic and avoid alkalinity. The loam for cultivation can be a mixture of leaf mold, garden soil, rotted soil, and river sand in a ratio of 4:4:1:1, but it must have good air permeability and water permeability.

2. Temperature

Its best growth and development temperature is between 20 and 25℃. It can tolerate a low temperature of -3℃, but it cannot be kept for a long time, otherwise it will cause frostbite. When the temperature is higher than 15℃, open the windows in time for ventilation to relieve the heat and facilitate its subsequent growth and flowering.

3. Lighting

Its growing environment generally has sufficient light, especially in spring and autumn. It must be ensured that it can receive at least 8 hours of sunshine every day, otherwise it will be extremely detrimental to its subsequent wintering and growth. However, in the hot summer, it is necessary to avoid exposure to strong sunlight. It is best to place it in a place with scattered light and then move it to a place with direct sunlight after winter.

4. Fertilization

It does not like fertilizer, but it also needs regular fertilizer supplementation. Stop watering the day before applying fertilizer. Apply decomposed fertilizer about once every ten days. After applying fertilizer, water it thoroughly again. Fertilization should basically be stopped in mid-September.

5. Watering

It is relatively dry in spring and autumn, so watering once every three days is sufficient. In summer, watering is required after the temperature drops, which is around 2 pm. Control watering in winter and water only when the soil in the pot is dry.
