Hydrangea cultivation methods and precautions

Hydrangea cultivation methods and precautions

1. Soil

Hydrangea is suitable for fertile, well-drained sandy soil, which can be more conducive to its growth and flowering.

2. Watering

Do not water too much, just keep the soil moist. If the soil is too moist, its leaves will easily rot. When the temperature is high in summer, you can spray water around to lower the temperature. During the rainy season, drainage measures must be taken to avoid water accumulation and root rot.

3. Lighting

Hydrangea prefers shade but not sunlight. It is best not to expose it to direct sunlight, especially in summer, as the sunlight is too strong and will burn it. In autumn and winter when the light is weak, place it in a brighter location to facilitate the differentiation of flower buds.

4. Fertilization

During its peak growth period, you can apply a thin cake fertilizer every half a month, and apply appropriate top dressing 1-2 times when buds are forming. Adding superphosphate soaking solution can make its flowers larger and the color brighter.

5. Notes

1. Prevention and control of diseases and pests: The diseases generally include powdery mildew and leaf spot. After being invaded, spray with wettable powder of mancozeb; the most common insect pests are aphids, which can be sprayed with cigarette butts soaked in water, or with omethoate emulsion for spraying.

2. Winter maintenance: After entering winter, it should be kept indoors and the temperature should be controlled above 5℃ so that it can survive the winter safely. Reduce watering in winter to avoid root rot.
