Cultivation methods and precautions of Sedum

How to grow Sedum sedum

Pot soil selection

For potted Sedum, you can choose a smaller flowerpot. Sedum is not very demanding on the soil and can grow in all kinds of soil, so the potting soil can be a mixture of garden soil and river sand.

illumination

Sedum needs sufficient light to grow, and it has a characteristic that the color of its leaves changes with the light. If there is sufficient light, the leaves will be yellow-green; if maintained in a slightly shady place, the leaves will be dark green. If it is too shaded and lacks light, the plant will grow too tall. Therefore, when growing Sedum, you need to pay attention to light.

temperature

Sedum has a certain degree of cold resistance. The suitable temperature for its growth is between 15℃ and 30℃. It can withstand temperatures as low as -5℃ in winter. It can safely spend the winter if placed in a sunny place sheltered from the wind.

Watering and fertilizing

When growing Sedum, you should do a good job of water and fertilizer management. The soil should be kept moist during the growth period and watering should be sufficient. In late spring and early summer, it can tolerate drought, so don't water it too much to prevent the soil in the pot from being too wet and affecting its growth.

Fertilization needs to ensure that the Sedum has sufficient nutrients. During the growing season, you can apply decomposed manure once a month to make the Sedum grow well.

Precautions for the cultivation of Sedum

Reproduction

The propagation of Sedum is very simple, usually by cuttings, division and sowing. Cutting propagation can be carried out in summer and autumn, sowing is carried out in the rainy season or in rainy weather, and division propagation is carried out in spring and summer, which is relatively simple to operate.

Pests and diseases

Diseases and pests of Sedum are relatively rare. Most of the diseases are caused by waterlogging or drought. The main pests are aphids and snails. When using it as a ground cover plant or a roof greening plant, you need to pay attention to timely weeding.

winter

Sedum is relatively cold-resistant. In winter, keep the temperature above 10℃ and place it in a sunny and sheltered place. The soil should not be too dry or too wet, and it can safely survive the winter.
