How to propagate Cineraria by cuttings

How to propagate Cineraria by cuttings

1. Take the side buds

This flower is usually propagated by sowing. Because some of its double-petal varieties are not easy to bear fruit, this method is used to prevent its quality from deteriorating or being hybridized.

After it grows flowers, usually in May and June, we can carefully remove its side buds at the axils of its base, then clean its leaves to help reduce water evaporation, then plant it in clean river sand, water it more, and then place it in a cool area to prevent it from being exposed to the sun. If the original plant does not grow side buds, you can remove and cut off the part of the stem that is more than ten centimeters long, which can help it grow side buds.

2. Planting

It will take about 20 to 30 days for it to grow roots, and five to six months for it to grow flowers. When it grows two or three true leaves, it needs to be transplanted, which is also called transplanting. You can use a pot with a larger mouth for planting. Mix rotten leaves, garden soil and sand, and move the seedlings in. There should be a distance of three centimeters between each plant. There should be a little more soil on the roots, and don't clean it off, so that they are more likely to survive.

3. Post-planting management

After transplanting, use a watering can with fine holes to water it thoroughly. Never use a strong stream of water to prevent the seedlings from being washed out of the soil or the soil on the roots from being washed away. Then place it in a cool area and continue to keep the soil moist. After seven days, when the seedlings have recovered, they can be placed in the sun to grow.
