What soil is best for growing yew?

What soil is best for growing yew?

1. Specific requirements

(1) Looseness and breathability: This aspect is easy to understand, in order to ensure the normal breathing of the plant. This kind of soil will allow it to grow better.

(2) Good water retention: Many flower lovers may not understand the meaning of this term, so let me explain it here. We all know that soil contains air and water. However, some soils contain large gaps, so the moisture can easily escape after watering. Then, the soil will soon be in a very dry state again, and such soil naturally has no water retention capacity. What we need is soil that can keep the water poured into it from evaporating for a long time.

(3) High in humus: This is the nutritional requirement. Choosing soil that is rich in nutrients will save us a lot of trouble later.

(4) Good fertilizer retention: If you don’t understand, you can refer to water retention. Their principles are similar. Only when the fertilizer retention ability is good can the plants have enough nutrients to absorb.

(5) Acidic: In addition to the above aspects, we also need to consider the characteristics of the plant itself. Because it likes slightly acidic soil, this is also a factor when choosing. However, it can be slightly acidic, with a pH of about five to six point five.

2. Soil preparation method

(1) As we mentioned above, clay is not breathable and does not meet the requirements. Sandy soil has poor water and fertilizer retention capabilities, so it is not suitable for use. What we can choose is to mix peat soil, perlite, and a small amount of loam. Practice has shown that the soil made in this way allows it to grow well.

(2) You can also mix in some base fertilizer, such as bone meal. But, use less. Otherwise, it is easy to burn the roots.
