How to care for Phalaenopsis before it blooms

How to care for Phalaenopsis before it blooms

1. Repotting and soil selection

When you buy a Phalaenopsis orchid, the store owner will tell you that you need to repot it every year. If you don't repot, the roots may rot. So how do you choose a pot and how do you choose the soil?

1. Choose a pot

Phalaenopsis is a very precious flower, so you must choose a good flowerpot. You can choose a ceramic pot or a plastic one, but it must be porous and shallow, and the height cannot be greater than the diameter of the bottom.

2. Soil selection

Phalaenopsis is a plant with relatively mature breeding technology in the flower market. There are special breeding soils for sale. If you want to save trouble, you can buy it directly. If you want it to be more perfect, you can also prepare the soil yourself: first collect pine needles, peanut skins, bark silk, charcoal and other grass ash fertilizers with high organic matter content. These can be prepared separately or mixed. These can probably meet the needs of Phalaenopsis before it blooms.

2. Temperature control

The temperature of Phalaenopsis must be controlled before it blooms. It is originally a tropical plant, so it is conceivable that it requires a higher temperature. It is best to be between 25℃ and 28℃ during the day, and the temperature at night must not be lower than 18℃. It is best to keep it at around 20 degrees Celsius. It is very sensitive to temperature. If the temperature is below 15℃ for a long time, the roots will no longer absorb water. Without water, it will be difficult to maintain life, let alone bloom. Especially in the northern regions, where the climate is changeable and the indoor temperature is unstable, you must keep warm at night.

3. Watering

The climate in tropical coastal areas is very humid with abundant rainfall. Phalaenopsis, as a local plant, also likes a humid environment very much, so it should not be allowed to lack water, especially before flowering. It should be watered frequently, but attention should be paid to the amount of watering, and water must not be accumulated at the roots.

4. Fertilization

Phalaenopsis grows very fast before flowering and requires a lot of nutrients, so you need to fertilize it more often, preferably once a week. When choosing fertilizers, it is best to choose those that contain more nutrients. As I mentioned earlier, the cultivation technology of Phalaenopsis is already very mature. If you don’t know how to prepare fertilizers, you can also buy fertilizers specifically for this period.
